Worth knowing
- At $150 or more the rate is 8% and the per-order fee disappears completely.
- Below $150 you pay the normal 13.6% plus the per-order fee. The jump at $150 is worth knowing before you price a pair at $145.
- This covers men's and women's athletic shoes. Other footwear uses the Clothing rate.
Where the money goes
The thing that catches people out is not the percentage. It is what the percentage is taken from. eBay works its fee out on the full amount the buyer paid, so the shipping you charged counts too. Offering free shipping does not get around this, it just moves the same money into the item price.
There is also a fee on every order, $0.30 on orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 on anything bigger. On a 60 dollar sale you barely notice it. On a 6 dollar sale it eats a real slice of your profit.
